Details

Early eighteenth century George I horn snuff box.

This exceptionally rare pressed horn snuff box was produced in the early part of the eighteenth century, somewhere between 1714 and 1727. It appears to have been modelled after the portrait of George I painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller. The pressed horn top still shows traces of original gilding.

This delightful example of early eighteenth century pressed horn stands 1.25cm high, is 5.5cm wide and 4cm deep. (Measurements approximate.) It has survived in excellent condition for a box of this age, showing appropriate wear and having sustained only two very minor chips to the outer edge of the base. It has no restoration.
