Early nineteenth century gold and carnelion vinaigrette. c. 1820.

This stunning vinaigrette was made in the early part of the nineteenth century. It is of sturdy gold (high grade, tested but unmarked) construction topped with a cabouchon carnelion. The interior grill has a central floral and foliate motif and is also variously decrated with puched and etched pattern. The base of the box is plain. The outer edges are decrated with raised flower heads which also makes the box easier to grip. Although it is probable that this vinaigrette was made on the Continent, it is certainly a high status piece and would have belonged to someone of wealth and importance.

This exceptional vinaigrette is 3cm wide, 2.5cm deep and stands 2.3cm high. (Measurements approximate). It is in immaculate condition, bearing only light wear appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
