Early nineteenth century hand painted Dieppe Ivory box. c. 1820.

This superb ivory box was produced in the Dieppe region of France in the early nineteenth century. Its use is unknown, but it may have been designed for visiting cards. It is decorated with high quality painting showing a Gallant and two Ladies in a pastoral neoclassical landscape with architectural ruins, the sides and base of the box having floral swags. The box has survived in remarkably good condition, having only minor paint loss to the corners and edges.

This outstanding early nineteenth century ivory hand painted box is 8cm wide by 6cm deep and stands 1.3cm high. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing only wear appropriate to its age (See above) It has no damage and no restoration.
