A mid nineteenth century silvered bronze desk seal showing Romeo and Juliet by Froment Meurice.

This rare and important desk seal was made in Paris in the mid part of the nineteenth century by Froment Meurice. The Froment Meurice family were gold and silversmiths producing a wide variety of items to the highest standards of artistry and craftsmanship. They worked in a free and naturalistic manner, in the tradition of the Mannerist and Baroque Masters. They exhibited in Paris and in London from 1849 and thence across Europe. This superbly sculpted and cast silvered bronze desk seal shows Romeo and Juliet standing back to back. It is signed Froment Meurice to the base. It has a blank matrix, which may be engraved for contemporary use should this be desired.

   This extremely rare and desirable silvered bronze desk seal stands 8.5 cm high, is 3 cm at its widest point and 2.5 cm at its deepest. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing only light wear appropriate to its age.
