This outstanding silver gilt and enamel box was made by Marius Hammer, who worked from Bergen in Norway at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries. The standard of Hammer's enamelling was so high that he soon gained a world wide reputation and in terms of quality his work has been compared to that of Karl Faberge. This exceptional box has gold floral inset decoration to the rich blue enamel. It is fully marked, showing an inverted hammer through an upper case 'M'.

This stunning example of the work of Marius Hammer stands 2cm high and is 7cm in diameter. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing light wear appropriate to its age. It has no damage and no restoration.
